Protecting Our Girls
Protecting Our Girls & Youth
At FLY Life, we believe every girl deserves to feel safe, valued, and protected. Part of empowering girls to be FLY inside out means helping them recognize unsafe situations and understand how to get help when something doesn’t feel right.
Human trafficking and sexual exploitation can happen in any community. Education and awareness are powerful tools for prevention. Our goal is to equip girls, families, educators, and community members with information that helps keep young people safe.
If you or someone you know may be in danger, help is available.

5 Signs of Trafficking or Sexual Exploitation
- Sudden gifts or money from unknown sources — A young person may suddenly have expensive clothes, phones, or money without explanation.
- A controlling older boyfriend, girlfriend, or “friend” — Someone may tell them where to go, who they can talk to, or constantly check their phone.
- Isolation from family or trusted adults — The young person stops spending time with friends, mentors, or family.
- Pressure to send photos or communicate secretly online — Traffickers often use social media and messaging apps to manipulate youth.
- Fear, anxiety, or signs of being controlled — The person may seem nervous, guarded, or afraid to speak for themselves.
Facts About Sex Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation
- Georgia is considered a major trafficking corridor because of its highways, airport access, and large event traffic.
- Recruitment often happens online through social media, gaming platforms, and messaging apps.
- Many victims know the person exploiting them — it is often not a stranger initially.
- Trafficking can happen in any ZIP code — urban, suburban, and rural communities are all affected.
- Youth experiencing instability may be more vulnerable, especially those facing homelessness or family conflict.
- Across the United States, thousands of trafficking cases are reported every year, and many victims are under 18.
